As you know, after each of our events at the Awards & SWAG presentation we always ask you for your feedback.
This is what we've found out about you and the 5 Top Reasons Why You Love Racing GECKO Events.
Now that the dust has settled (pun intended!) we want to take a moment with you to review your race and the great day we all had together.
We also want to take a moment and thank each and every one of you for choosing to make GECKO's XTERRA Turkey Track Trail Race part of your running story and we hope that you feel as pumped up about the day (and your accomplishment) as we do.
So here are some recaps for you:

Many of our runners came to be part of the XTERRA Colorado Trail Run Series, and the XTERRA Beaver Creek Trail Run on July 21 will be the fourth and final race of the 2013 season, which means it is the last chance for runners to earn points toward the series standings. It's a 5k and 10k trail run – check out your standings, it may be worth you heading down there to race.
Hope to see you at our next event The Mountain Chile Cha Cha o August 24th, and kick on with us for the Chile Festival and Love Music!
Yours in the Outdoors!
Team GECKO
It Takes a Village to Raise a Child - GECKO's first race for the 2013 season is a month away and we have been overwhelmed by the support and interest of our local community. The generous folk of Pagosa Springs have contacted us in their droves to volunteer and help.
There are many individuals - setting up the start/finish, marking the course, packing race bags, manning the registration and performing all sorts of important tasks on race day and in preparation, and we are grateful to each and every one of them. Today I want to give a shout out to a few of those groups in particular taking part in the XTERRA Turkey Track Trail Race:
Pagosa Trail Riders www.pagosatrailriders.com
This local ATV Club is manning an aid station for us, and is instrumental in keeping our trails maintained.
The San Juan Back Country Horsemen www.sjbch.org
This local trail riding club is also instrumental in keeping our trails maintained. They are marshaling, providing a lead out horseman and a sweep.
The Rollergirls in Pagosa R.I.P www.rollergirlsinpagosa.com
These ladies are colorfully manning our start/finish/marathon turnaround to TOUT THEIR BOUT later that night (to R.I.P up the Los Alamos M'atom Bombs at the High School) and giving our runners a discount at the door.
The Pagosa Springs High School Cross Country team - the Pagosa Pirates www.pagosa.k12.co.us
All you have to do is get on to our Facebook Page in the next 5 days and fill in the 'Ticket Giveaway'https://www.facebook.com/pages/GECKO/324829909101?id=324829909101&sk=app_428747997220326 .
This old mountain classic 1/2 & full trail marathon has joined the XTERRA Colorado Trail Run Series for 2013!
Why do so many runners return every year for the Turkey Track?!
Turkey Track is a spectacular 13.1 or 26.2 mile trail run on sweet single track, and with the start at 7,200 feet of altitude you're in for incredible mountain vistas and pristine mountain air as you follow the edges of dynamic canyons and through Ponderosa and Aspen forests. Plus your share of roots, rocks, turkeys and perhaps a little bit of mud! This run has mellow elevation gain, less than 1,500’— the ideal early-season layout. It's really the perfect transition from a 'road' to a 'trail' race.
Besides the scenic trails, there are lots of reasons that runners return year after year to this race, and now with XTERRA there'll be more SWAG; XTERRA sponsor on course support (aid stations will be fully stocked with all the usual snacks and fruit plus plenty of PowerBar race nutrition and Gatorade); and a chance to rack up those XTERRA points. XTERRA has supplied plenty of signage and flagging tape for a well marked, easy to follow course. Expect a stocked race bag with a free pair of top notch SOS running socks as a race memento. We're also iPod friendly if that's your thing.
Turkey Track is a race that prides itself on being a memorable day out. The friendly people of Pagosa Springs come out to make it so: aid stations are run by local community groups. This year the ATV Club Pagosa Trail Riders, the Roller Derby R.I.P team (who have a big bout that night) and the Pagosa Springs High School Cross Country team–the Pirates, are each manning an aid station. They all run like clock work and are always well stock and well briefed. As you'd expect from a race set in an authentic mountain town–there are horses! The San Juan Backcountry Horsemen also assist us on the day out on the course, up on their trusty steeds they act as marshals, lead out and sweep.
This year we have a state of the art electronic chip timing system, with splits at the half way. You'll get accurate results fast. We also have course photographers and the race is iPod friendly. We all meet afterwards at the Pagosa Brewing Company to celebrate a great day out on the trails. Every finisher will get aFamous "GECKO" medal - handmade by local students – a Turkey Track tradition.
What's more?! Expect plenty of old fashioned mountain town hospitality in Pagosa Springs (there's lots of accommodation choices with GECKO Partners who offer 15% discount for racers and their families) and you can visit the world's deepest hot springs for a well deserved soak after you run. There's plenty for family & friends to do while you're running.
And the best part for last: the reason why it's great to participate is proceeds from the race registration go to GECKO's programs that gets kids unplugged, off the couch and outside!
